The value of the project Afforestation of Burnt Areas is half a million kunas
9.6.2010
The project Afforestation of Burnt Areas was presented today in the Headquarters of Hrvatski Telekom by the President of the Management Board of Hrvatski Telekom, Mr. Ivica Mudrinić and by Mr. Darko Vuletić, President of the Management Board of the public company Croatian Forests. HT has sponsored this ecological project in cooperation with Croatian Forests with the aim to plant with shoots a total of twenty hectares of forest area destroyed by summer fire in recent years. The locations in the areas managed by the forest offices Benkovac, Hvar, Makarska and Metković will be afforested with Alpine pine and cypress.
Through the project Afforestation of Burnt Areas HT has directly invested, for a third successive year, in a unique and wide ecological diversity, thus proving its permanent responsibility towards the social community.
The project was launched at the beginning of high fire-risk season because the goal of the project is to make the public aware that conscientious behavior is essential when it comes to fire prevention and to stress once again how important green woods are for health because they produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide and thus contribute to the quality of life of this and future generations as well.
“Our social responsibility strategy is based on demands imposed on our company by the market and customers, but also on the potentials which Hrvatski Telekom, as a powerful company and the leading provider of telecommunications services, can offer to the community. We confirm our awareness about the importance of environmental protection by striving to contribute, among others, to reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Our care for forests as natural filters is a way to accomplish the above goal, which is why the project of regeneration of fire-affected areas is much more than just care for landscape beauty“, said Ivica Mudrinić, President of the Management Board of Hrvatski Telekom.
“Croatian Forests take their obligation to protect forests from fire very seriously and invest a lot of effort and resources to this end. Every year we invest about 100 million kunas for fire protection. Fire protection paths, roads and forest observation posts are built and maintained. A large portion of forests where the first defense line was located are now endangered by mine fields. Croatian Forests invest approximately 30 million kunas a year for demining. We are very pleased that our partners in HT have recognized the importance of investment into regeneration of fire-affected forests and that they have joined us in forest regeneration activities”, said Darko Vuletić, President of the Management Board of Croatian Forests.
Hrvatski Telekom has constantly invested in this comprehensive ecological project, namely in 2008, in afforestation of four areas throughout Croatia, and in 2009, in preservation of swamps as endangered species habitats.
