Within the campaign of ecological disposal of used mobile handsets, HT organized a visit to the only authorized mobile phone recycling facility in Croatia
24.5.2010
Within the campaign of ecological disposal of used mobile handsets, HT organized a visit to the only authorized mobile phone recycling facility in Croatia, located at Donja Bistra, where the electric and electronic waste recycling facility in this part of Europe was built.
The recycling facility is owned by the company Spectra Media which has been granted a concession for e-waste disposal and processing, by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund. The facility’s processing capacity is 12.000 t/ per year in one shift. Management of the recycling line is fully automated; this closed-type system boasts state-of-the-art recycling technology which is non-polluting and in line with the strict work safety standards.
The visitors, escorted by Spectra Media's General Manager Kerim Mujkić and T-HT's Environmental Manager Ružica Gajić, had the opportunity to tour the facility and have a look at the e-waste disposal process.
Within the campaign conducted on occasion of the recycling facility tour, customers may be granted a 100 HRK discount when purchasing a Sony Ericsson Simpa package. With each Simpa package, the customers get an initial 20 HRK on their account; this campaign will give them additional 20 HRK the next four times when they top-up their account by a minimum of 50 HRK. The most favorably priced handset in this campaign is the Sony Ericsson W205 Simpa package; highly ecology-minded customers will choose the Sony Ericsson Elm GreenHeart™ handset.
In order to take advantage of the campaign which lasts from 3 May until 30 June 2010, customers just need to hand over their used mobile phone at one of the T sales outlets.
By this exclusive offer, HT intends to promote the environmental awareness of users of mobile handsets. If each of the 2.86 million of users of the T-Mobile network recycled just one handset, we would jointly save more than 323 tons of raw materials, as all parts of the mobile handset may be used for energy generation or for production of new handsets.
The modern way of life is full of technologically more and more advanced devices, the lifetime of which is getting shorter and shorter; state-of-the-art devices and technology becomes obsolete very quickly. The company HT has been dealing for years with this issue of disposal of such kind of waste, by its mobile handset disposal campaigns.
This is the fourth campaign already conducted by HT in line with the highest environmental standards and to the ISO 14001 Certificate. As far back as the year 2002, T-Mobile had an established and certified environmental management system according to the ISO 14001 Standard, thus being the only Croatian mobile operator with an independent certificate regarding environmental protection. Since 2002, T-Mobile has collected and ecologically disposed of 439 tons of paper, 195 tons of metal waste, 216 tons of e-waste, 118 tons of rechargeable batteries and more than 4.200 toners.
In the year 2005, initiating the first campaign of ecological disposal of mobile handsets, T-Mobile also became the first mobile operator to organize disposal of used handsets; more than 80.000 collected devices testify to the high level of our customers' environmental awareness. The collected handsets are being ecologically disposed according to the ISO 14001 and other top standards in environmental protection, in order to avoid even the slightest pollution. Also, customers may always contact us with suggestions or inquiries regarding environmental protection at zastita.okolisa@t.ht.hr.
By continuing this campaign, the Company is reinforcing its focus and commitment to environmental protection which is part of its overall business operation and an opportunity to contribute, in this respect, to the benefit of the entire social community.
