The action of ecological disposal of used mobile handsets launched on 3 May by Croatian Telecom ended on 30 June. More than 20,000 used devices and batteries were collected during the action in which owners of mobile handsets had the possibility of being granted discount when purchasing a new Sony Ericsson Simpa package.
Since 2005, when T-Mobile started organized disposal of used mobile handsets, more than 100,000 devices have been collected. By continuing ecological disposal of devices throughout the year HT reinforces its focus on and commitment to environmental protection and preservation, which is part of its overall business operations and an opportunity to contribute to the benefit of the entire social community.
During this special action customers could realize a number of benefits by handing over their used mobile handset and battery in one of T points of sale. With this exclusive offer HT wanted to raise ecological awareness among users of mobile handsets.
Collected devices are ecologically disposed of in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard and other highest environmental standards so as to avoid even the slightest chance of environment pollution.
This is the fourth action already that HT has conducted in line with the highest environmental standards and the ISO 14001 certificate. T-Mobile has had an established and certified environmental management system according to the ISO 14001 Standard since 2002, thus being the only Croatian mobile operator with this independent certificate for environmental protection management. This year, the certificate has been awarded to the whole company HT, making it the only telecom operator with this certificate.
Apart from electronic waste, the T-HT Group is also active in the area of collection of other waste types. In the period from 2007 to 2009, 375 tons of waste paper was collected, which saved 7500 trees. Besides, more than 252 tons of waste plastic and more than 406 tons of metal waste was collected.
Efforts HT invests in environment protection have not gone unnoticed, which is proved by the fact that during evaluation of HT's corporate responsibility, conducted by the German-based agency oekom research in 2008, HT was given a high grade and therefore was assigned the Prime status, i.e. included in the category of companies recommended as best in the industry to investors from ethically and ecologically oriented funds.
