Today, HT announced the best mobile applications and ideas for applications submitted to the „Be creaTive“ competition.
The participants could compete in three categories: „Application Prototype“ – which required a finalized application to be submitted, and „Application Concept“ and „Look into the Future“ which require just an elaborated concept of the devised application. As many as 75 works were submitted, of which 32 were finalized applications, while 42 were concepts.
Most of the received works was dealing with topics related to traffic, telephone directory, games and productivity (i.e. applications making our daily activities easier). The best works were picked by an expert jury, applying criteria of innovation (originality and creativity), attractiveness, quality, usability, technical feasibility, as well as commercial sustainability or, respectively, market potential.
The most valuable prize, the First Prize in the „Application Prototype“ category – in the amount of 98.000 HRK, went to the HR Caller ID application by Krunoslav Leljak. This application will identify the caller or sender of a text message if he/she is not stored in the mobile handset's contacts list. It will also disclose the owner of an unknown number when the number is simply entered into the application.
The Second Prize in this category went to an application dealing with telephone numbers. The ShortCut Croatia application will enable you to browse the largest online telephone directory – by key word or number, to locate contacts (addresses) of fixed network numbers on the map, also displaying the distance, and to share data on the user's and contact's location. It will also locate the nearest ATM machines of all banks in Croatia. The author of this application, Mijo Kaligera, was awarded with 35.000 HRK.
Third Prizes and 20.000 HRK each went to the ZgTram application by the company Infinum and the Promet HR application by Luka Sučić. ZgTram offers all information related to tram traffic in Zagreb: it will display a system map and time table of day and night lines, payment of tram tickets and finding the shortest route between two tram stations. And while ZgTram will facilitate orientation in tram traffic, Promet HR (Traffic HR) will help you with Croatian roads. This application will enable drivers to receive, at any point of time, traffic information from other road users all over Croatia.
In the „Application Concept“ category, the First Prize worth 8.000 HRK went to the IseeYou concept by Goran Bralo. ISeeYou has been designed to enable blind people to communicate via popular social services and to read the best-known Portals in Croatia.
Škola sigurne vožnje (Safe Driving School) by Branko Gudan took the second Prize and 5.000 HRK. This is actually a test which will improve one's knowledge of traffic rules, aiming to reduce traffic accidents and the number of accident victims. The Third Prize and 3.000 HRK went to the Alibi application concept by Senko Rašić. This interesting application will enable users to keep track of their daily activities, thus helping them to better organize their time. The basic idea is that people find it hard to estimate how much time they spend on certain activities, particularly on little things which they keep repeating unnecessarily.
In the interesting „Look into the Future“ category, prizes were awarded to four futuristic ideas for applications. Vraćanje korijenima (Back to the Roots) by Leo Ercegović would enable texting by simply pronouncing text – while the user is speaking, the display would show letters, words and sentences. This way the user could write a text message, find a contact in the contacts list and send the message to this contact. The other three prize-winning concepts were designed by Ivan Porkolab. The Digitalna lisnica (Digital Wallet) application will effect payment by digital „money“ instead of paper money. Daljinski upravljač (Remote Control) will overcome „communications“ barriers between different devices and enable management of oll devices in the immediate vicinity. Univerzalni prevoditelj (Universal Translator) is an idea for an application which some day will translate the written word in real time. To be more precise, it will transcribe text from one language into another. Each prize-winning application in this category received a prize in the amount of 2.000 HRK.
The prize-winning applications will soon be available, free of charge, in the ApliCenter – the first Croatian virtual center for mobile applications which can be found on the T-Portal.
„The aim of this contest was to incite innovation of Croatian authors and to create applications adapted to the Croatian market. We are extremely satisfied with the response and creativity of the works submitted. This competition is unique, as not only developers, but other innovators could participate as well – just by presenting their idea for creation of smartphone applications. Moreover, for the first time in Croatia, applications created on any mobile operating system could be submitted“, said Ivan Skender, Director of T-HT's Residential Product Development Department on this occasion.
Due to the excellent response and the multitude of innovative ideas, in order to thank all finalists for their excellent works, HT decided to additionally reward each finalist with its innovative service Siguran dom (Safe Home). The Safe Home Service is a unique home surveillance service enabling you to stay in contact with your home at any time, from any place. Considering the additional rewards for finalists and the two Third Prizes, HT has increased the original prize fund from 182.000 HRK to more than 247.000 HRK.
In addition to the prize-winning applications, the expert jury picked three more applications, one of which will receive a prize to be awarded by vote of T-Portal readers. These are the applications Blok za belu (Bela Pad), Party košarica (Party Basket) and Bitka za Jadran (Battle for the Adriatic). The application with the most votes will be awarded by T-Portal, the competition's sponsor, with a prize of 5.000,00 HRK. The on-line voting will start today, 15 September 2010, and will be open until 15 October 2010.
