Nokia Siemens Networks LTE provides end users with a unique experience of new generation mobile broadband
Nokia Siemens Networks and Croatian Telecom announced cooperation on the occasion of testing LTE technology in the region of Split at the beginning of 2011.
With its Long Term Evolution (LTE) solution Nokia Siemens Networks offers to providers of communications services a clear and economical response to challenges of "mobile communications revolution" and the ability to offer a unique experience of new generation mobile broadband to end users.
Nokia Siemens Networks, the world's leading company in creation of solutions for provision of telecommunications services, presented today its commercial integral LTE solution in the building of Croatian Telecom in Zagreb. They announced cooperation with Croatian Telecom, the leading provider of telecommunications services, regarding testing of LTE solutions in the region of Split at the beginning of 2011.
The presentation was delivered by Ms Nives Sandri, Member of the Management Board, and Mr. Goran Horvatić-Jambor, Head of Technical Sales of Nokia Siemens Networks, demonstrated the possibilities of LTE solution. HDTV and 3D TV signal was transmitted during LTE demonstration and practical use of the application for video conferences, online games, VoIP and business applications was shown.
LTE ensures impressive speeds (with peak data transmission speeds of 173 Mbps for downlink and 58 Mbps for uplink, which is 10 times faster than HSPA speeds) and in this way facilitates use of all currently available data applications on the screens of mobile devices. The new technology will make it possible for users to share all, even the most demanding multi-media contents. LTE also offers most efficient use of the frequency spectrum. One of its biggest advantages is that it will help provide fast Internet access to rural areas that are still isolated.
“Customers are beginning to rely on applications and services that are more complex than simple exchange of e-mails and Internet surfing. In order to meet customers' expectations, the network should evolve to next-generation mobile broadband network with higher network efficiency, optimized use of the spectrum and impressive speeds” - said Nives Sandri.
“Croatian Telecom is the first operator in Croatia to invest its funds in advanced LTE technology. We are intent on providing customers with the highest quality data services at any moment. By using this cutting-edge technology access to the Internet and shared applications will be speeded up several times. The new technology will actually turn mobile devices into premium small computers and thus deliver several times improved customer experience. Nokia Siemens Networks is our long-time partner and I am pleased that we will present, in cooperation with them, the LTE technology to customers in the region of Split”, said Goran Toplek, Director of Radio Access Networks Planning and Deployment Department.
As the pioneer in LTE development, Nokia Siemens Networks is the market leader with 17 business contracts and more than 25 agreed testing procedures. In July this year Nokia Siemens Networks and Nokia jointly made the first LTE data call through Nokia Siemens Networks equipment that is available on the market, in 800 MHz frequency band known as digital dividend.
Nokia Siemens Networks LTE solution is based on revolutionary compact and energy efficient base station Flexi Multiradio. “Software defined base station Flexi Multiradio is a perfect way of upgrade to LTE. Service providers can activate it today with WCDMA/HSPA software for support to the existing WCDMA users and once the devices supporting LTE become available and the service ready for launch, the only thing they will have to do is upgrade software to achieve full LTE functionality”, concluded Nives Sandri.
Flexi Multiradio base stations operate on a “plug and play” basis, which facilitates their automatic connection and integration into network, which in turn leads to reduction of costs during network construction.
Apart from the radio part, one should also take into consideration new requirements regarding core part of the network which is expected to be ready for “All-IP”. Nokia Siemens Networks has responded to this with Evolved Packet Core (EPC), which has a much higher throughput for data traffic and fully fits into the new LTE architecture.
