Within the traditional donation to emergency medical care centers, Hrvatski Telekom has donated funds to Health Center in Korčula, at the press conference held today in Korčula. This institution has been donated HRK 200,000, which is the third out of a total of four donations that will go to health care institutions throughout Croatia. Apart from the Health Center Korčula, HRK 200,000 will be donated to Health Center of Požega-Slavonia County, County Hospital Čakovec and Emergency Medical Care Center Pazin each. The donation of Hrvatski Telekom was received by Josip Podbevšek, MD (urology specialist), manager of the Health Center in Korčula, who said the following on this occasion: “Health Center Korčula provides the inhabitants of the Pelješac peninsular and the island of Korčula with medical care services.
As for emergency health care, the distance between Smokvica on the island of Korčula and the nearest hospital – General Hospital Dubrovnik is 180 km, which includes ferry transport from Korčula – Orebić, if weather conditions are favorable. The distance to Clinical Hospital Split is 260 km, or 4 to 5 hours of transport by ambulance in favorable weather conditions. The population is rather dispersed so that the distance from Smokvica to Trpanj is more than 80 km. The annual mileage of Health Center vehicles is somewhere between 250,000 to 280,000 km, with a fair share going to ambulance transport to Zagreb, namely 1,300 km (one transport). This Health Center, emergency medical service and ambulance service have to meet all these challenges.
There are 8 ambulance vehicles in our fleet, 4 of them with the mileage above 450,000 km. Given the fact that we had a lot of other difficulties in financing this service, we could not renew the fleet. This is why we would like to thank HT for having identified the problem and for provision of necessary support which will make it possible for us to provide people in need with high quality and quick medical assistance.”
When presenting the donation on behalf of Hrvatski Telekom, Maja Srdelić, manager responsible for sale to business customers said that the Company had started to support emergency medical care centers in 2006 already with the aim to directly contribute to improving the protection and rescue of human lives and the level of health care quality.
T-HT started support to emergency medical care centers five years ago, led by the idea that quick and efficient communication is essential when it comes to rescue of human lives. The emergency medical service was selected as a recipient because of its general importance for the society as a whole and for individuals, regardless of age, gender, residence or social status. The total value of HT's donations to emergency medical service amounts to nearly HRK 11 million, which confirms the status of HT as a company focused on corporate social responsibility and care for the community in which it operates.
