The 2010 Corporate Social Responsibility Report was presented at the headquarters of Hrvatski Telekom in Zagreb today. The annual report was presented by Ivica Mudrinić, President of the Management Board and CEO of Hrvatski Telekom, and Ružica Gajić, Environmental Protection Manager. Mirjana Matešić, Head of the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development (HR PSOR) gave an assessment of the contribution of Hrvatski Telekom to the sustainable development of the Croatian economy. The contents of this Report, covering the 2010 reporting period, and HT’s joining HR PSOR in February this year reflect the company’s true commitment to the continuous development of corporate social responsibility.
The Report, which was presented in the presence of the Members of the Management Board of HT, includes chapters on activities reflecting a high level of consciousness and responsibility to company’s stakeholders: customers, employees, suppliers, and the society as a whole, as well as to environmental protection. Although corporate social responsibility is part of all working activities, direct care about corporate social responsibility gathers an eight-member team coordinated by the Public Relations Department.
The activities of corporate social responsibility of the company are based on three basic pillars of sustainable development: top communications possibilities and connectivity of life and work, integration into the knowledge and information society, and creating a society with reduced emission of greenhouse gases. The latter is an area that the company has been systematically dealing with for many years, confirmed by the fact that in 2010 Hrvatski Telekom obtained ISO 14001 standard for environment management.
"From the very beginning of the company, Hrvatski Telekom has been dealing with corporate social responsibility very seriously, contributing to the community in which it operates. True innovativeness does not stop with the definition of the business goals of the organization, but it also addresses the relevant issues of the time we live in. This Reports puts us in a small circle of companies in Croatia that can take pride in having a vision of the future of not only their business operations, but also of the future of the society and country we live in," said Ivica Mudrinić, President of the Management Board and CEO of Hrvatski Telekom
"I would like to express my satisfaction at the fact that HT marked its joining HR PSOR with the publication of the first integrated Report on Non-financial Impact, which includes complex information on the relations of the company with its stakeholders and the impact according to the key areas of corporate social responsibility. By continuously developing the non-financial reporting, HT shows its understanding of the importance of sustainable business operations for the long-term competitiveness of the company," said Mirjana Matešić, Head of HR PSOR.
In the areas with regard to which the Report describes abundant company practices related to corporate social responsibility, the public is already well informed of the generous donation activities that, over a number of years, have covered many areas with a need for philanthropic activities of the company. The employees of HT have also directly participated in several actions by volunteering or proposing projects.
The Report especially emphasizes the area of corporate social responsibility in relation to human resources, which includes continuous implementation of employee satisfaction, within which a special emphasis was put on health issues in 2010 in order to additionally expand an already wide scope of activities in the area of employee health care.
Since 2007, HT has been a member of Global Compact, a UN’s initiative for sustainable development, and, as part of its membership, it has been regularly and transparently reporting on the progress achieved in the implementation of the initiative’s basic principles. Also, pursuant to the assessment of the company’s work on the improvement of corporate social responsibility conducted by an independent assessor, for the years 2010 and 2011, HT is a member of the CEERIUS sustainability index used by the Vienna Security Market for Central and Eastern Europe.
The 2010 Corporate Social Responsibility Report also includes an overview of socially responsible activities of the companies owned by HT: Combis and Iskon.
