Three prizes of the fifth T-Htnagrada@msu.hr competition were awarded at the ceremony held in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb on 23 March.
A total of 249 works of art was received for the competition and the jury of experts selected 40 of them for the exhibition. These 40 works of art competed for the most prestigious purchase prizes in the contemporary visual arts.
This year, the exhibition committee comprised: Snježana Pintarić – Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU); Evelina Turković – art historian and critic; Radmila Iva Janković – MSU curator MSU; Dunja Blažević – Director of the Sarajevo Contemporary Art Center; Darko Fritz – theoretician, curator and artist; Zlatko Kopljar – media artist and Bart de Baere – Head of the Museum of the Contemporary Art in Antwerp.
In selection of the works for the exhibition, excellence was the main criterion for the jury because of the diversity of the received works created by artists of all generations. This criterion was also applied in the case of the selection of the awarded works. Therefore, the second runner up was a provocative spatial installation of a young artist, the first runner up was a video clip of an established artist, and the winner of this year’s competition was an artist who expands the borders of the subversive artistic ways of expression.
1. Prize: Damir Bartol Indoš – a sound installation and a performance “O postajanju Čovjeka šahtofona”
2. Prize: Renata Poljak – a video clip “Režiranje glumaca / režiranje uvjerenja”
3. Prize: Luiza Margan – a spatial installation “Izvan uloge”
This year, the international jury of experts decided to praise three works of art that could not be awarded, but deserve to be mentioned: “Roşu / kao krv“ by Silvije Vujičić, “Body Scan” by Sandra Đukića and “Rad spašava” by Marko Marković.
Also, until the closing of the exhibition on 25 March, the visitors of the exhibition had the opportunity to vote for the work of art they liked the most. Stjepan Šandrk, the artist whose painting „Martina Grlić gleda Potpisivanje deklaracije o pripajanju zapadne Hercegovine i Popova polja Republici Hrvatskoj Lovre Artukovića“ received the greatest number of votes, won an audience award. The luckiest visitor who took part in the voting, Maja Tondini from Zagreb, won a Planet9 e-reader.
