The largest group of members of the Croatian Olympics team is leaving for London today to compete in the Olympic arena. The send-off party was organized in the Westin Zagreb Hotel. It was attended by Josip Leko, Vice President of the Croatian Parliament, Željko Jovanović, Minister of Science, Education and Sports, and representatives of Croatian Telecom, which has been the general sponsor of the Croatian Olympic Committee for more than a decade. They all wished the athletes sports luck and good results at the Olympics.
At these Summer Olympics, which will take place from 27 July until 12 August in London, our country will be represented by as many as 110 male and female athletes competing in 15 sports.
Damir Šegota, Head of the Croatian Mission at the Olympic Games, Josip Čop, Secretary General of the Croatian Olympic Committee, and Venio Losert, Croatian flag bearer, a member of the Croatian national handball team and a double Olympic gold medal winner, talked at the send-off party in the Westin Zagreb Hotel about preparations for the upcoming Games, about the Croatian Olympics team and sports expectations.
After that the attendees were addressed by Director of HT's Public Relations Department Maja Weber, who represented Croatian Telecom. Ms Weber welcomed the members of the Croatian Olympics team and pointed out that it is a great privilege for Croatian Telecom to support their efforts to achieve top sports results and also to support the development of sport in general and promotion of the Olympic values. “The very fact that you are here today and that you will compete with the world's top athletes in a couple of days means that you are the best”, said Maja Weber and wished to the athletes every success in London on behalf of our company.
After that the audience was addressed by Zoran Primorac, member of the Croatian national tennis table team who won his first Olympic gold medal back in 1988 in Seoul, then by Zlatko Mateša, President of the Croatian Olympic Committee, and Željko Jovanović, Minister of Science, Education and Sports. At the end of the event the Croatian Olympians signed a statement by which they accept the provisions of the Olympic Chart, which is signed by all Olympic Games contestants.
