The fifth T-HT conference Growing through Knowledge was held in Zagreb today. Dr. Michio Kaku and Sarah Lacy, two world renowned speakers, talked about spurring entrepreneurship in adverse economic conditions and about the changes that science and technology will bring by 2100.
Almost 800 guests listened to the lectures given by dr. Michio Kaku and Sarah Lacy. They had the opportunity to listen to dr. Kaku giving an accurate presentation of a stunning and provocative vision of the 21st century including revolutionary developments in medicine, artificial intelligence computers, nanotechnology, energy production, and astronautics. Sarah Lacy pointed out the characteristics of an entrepreneurial eco-system which was essential for start-up development and success and informed us about the experience of inspirational and daring entrepreneurs from the whole world who drove the economy in their respective countries despite challenging economic conditions.
Dr. Michio Kaku, a physicist, futurologist, and one of the most eminent scientists of today, pointed out: “The use of technology and investments in education enable present societies to develop rapidly. India and China have done more in the last 30 years than in the previous 300, mostly owing to the use of the Internet. Singapore was at the bottom, but now it is dramatically going forward thanks to its investments in education. It is easy to predict progress in the future for the societies which invest in technology and education.”
“The major barrier to innovations is finding excuses. I have witnessed examples where great business ideas were realized in poor societies, under military dictatorships, colonial occupation, in a financial crisis, or under restrictive political regimes. If people, who had an idea and a vision, managed to start up a business in such conditions, there is no justification for not doing it anywhere else,” said Sarah Lacy, a world renowned writer addressing the topic of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Ivica Mudrinić, President of the Management Board of HT, pointed out: “Only knowledge and education are a true capital for future progress. Without doubt, the Croatian society has a potential seeking its opportunity. It is up to us to use it and make a quantum leap in order to provide a better future for individuals and the society as a whole and enable them to progress faster.”
This year’s conference traditionally gathered guests from the Croatian economic, intellectual, and cultural life, as well as friends, partners, and employees of Hrvatski Telekom.
HT also made it possible for the guests to download e-books by dr. Michio Kaku and Sarah Lacy on Planet 9, a platform for reading contents on computers, handsets with Android operating system or IOS (iPhone and iPad), and readers – devices providing the best experience of reading e-publications.
