Huawei and HT will donate tablets to schools of applied arts in Split, Rijeka, Osijek and Zagreb, aiming to modernize the curriculum
12.4.2013
The first exhibition on tablets in Croatia, featuring paintings of Igor Zovko on Huawei devices, was opened at the T-Center on Petar Preradović Square in Zagreb. For this unique event on the Croatian cultural scene, instead of traditional painting tools, Igor Zovko has put to use the products and possibilities of modern technology; the exhibition is open at the T-Center until 12 May 2013. Huawei tablets with Zovko's paintings will also be shown at selected T-Centers in Rijeka, Split, Osijek and Varaždin. By this exhibition, Igor Zovko and the companies Huawei and HT, being among the leading innovators on the global and local market, have brought global trends to Croatia. At the same time, Huawei and HT will donate tablets to secondary schools of applied arts in Split, Rijeka, Osijek and Zagreb, thus supporting the introduction of state-of-the-art tools into the school curriculum.
- In painting, I like to explore the idea of man's greatness; man is capable of great things, but when placed alongside his extraordinary achievement, he will become small, dwarfish. This is how the "Giants" concept came into existence during the preparation of the exhibition. I believe that it does not matter whether my artistic idea has been brought to life by a traditional paint-brush or by a tablet application; what matters much more is to what extent this work of art will impact the viewer in terms of his way of thinking, his feelings and his philosophy of life. This is what counts, regardless of the techniques used by the artist – said the author, Igor Zovko, a journalist at 24 sata newspaper who has been engaged in painting for more than 20 years and who had several exhibitions up to now.
The tablet donation will enable students of regional vocational schools to use advanced devices in regular classes and to employ the tablet as a new medium for their own creations. In a couple of months, they will be promoting their talent and works created on tablets, at a virtual exhibition.
- Technology has always been the driving force for changes; today's example shows us how tablets contributed to evolution in the world of art, expanding its scope. Forecasts indicate that by 2016, on a global level, tablet data traffic will exceed 10 per cent of global data traffic. For the same year, the outlook is that tablets will generate data traffic which is equal to the traffic of the entire year 2012. Hrvatski Telekom is prepared for such a future, offering already now the best and fastest network in Croatia along with the best range of devices, among them also this exceptional model made by Huawei - said Maja Weber, Director of the Public Relations Department at Hrvatski Telekom.
The tablet market is on a steep rise in Croatia; research conducted by Deloitte indicates that last year, tablet sales had a 9 per cent share among the employed population in Croatia. In October of 2012, Hrvatski Telekom has conducted a national survey which disclosed that within a year, 200 per cent more people have become tablet owners; in total, 3 per cent of Croatia's population own a tablet device. And in the segmet of young people aged between 18 and 35, even one third of employed people own a tablet.
- Functionalities and benefits, but also purchases at increasingly favorable prices account for the tablets' lightning-fast success. According to individual forecasts for this year, from the 170 million globally sold tablets, even 60 per cent will have displays sized less than 8 inches, just like the Huawei MediaPad 7 Lite that was used by the author for this exhibition. With the example of Igor Zovko, the popular term "Consumerization of IT" has got a totally new dimension, as the artist always has the tablet with him, as a painting tool, and nothing is limiting his creativity any more. Now he is able, at any point of time, to turn his ideas into works of art – concluded Dan Klepač, Director of Huawei Device in Croatia.
In its forecasts, the IDC announces that in 2016, there will be approximately 260 million tablets on the global market, thanks to, among other factors, the modernization and viral expansion in education systems and increased number of on-line courses.
